Is time a straight line? As of today, Venus crosses the space between the Earth and the Sun, coming as physically close to us as she’ll get for the next 18 months. This is her underworld journey. She set in the West on March 19th. On March 29th, she’ll rise in the East.
For Taurus or Libra rising signs, your actions are said to match her motions – descent into a place where personal resolve is made anew, alchemizing the worst of what came before. And for all the rest of us, some particular arenas of our lives or people around us have fallen out of view, off to face their own underworld sensitivities and emerge with changed perspective and a bit more fight.
With this planet, it’s never as simple as what lies ahead or what is behind us. Venus gives us harmony across eras and also points out dissonance, urges balance and corrects for clashes. We look to her for descriptions of our longing. She is the archetype of the flower, enticing the pollinators to her nutritious performance of color. She is the weaver, the artist, and the desire to connect.
Astronomically, as Venus moves closer to Earth, she is treading back over the same degrees of the zodiac as she traveled in her forward motion the month before. This re-treading is not superficial. Just as backstitches hold a seam, every 18 months she weaves the larger storylines together with extra stitches. Venus retrograde gives us time to flip the patterns of our relational lives over. She can’t be pushed aside in favor of other priorities. We inspect and tie up the loose threads on the undersides of our desires. When she moves on, she’ll be laying down the next pattern, picking up new threads to work repair on. She’ll add to the whole picture of our personal and collective tapestries of interdependence and resistance. So much resistance.
2025 brings with it the colors Venus wove with back in the spring of 2017, of 2009, 2001 and back forever in 8 year increments. This particular backstitch tied an anchor knot at 2 degrees of Aries and attached the collective tides to every individual impulse. Here she asks – What do you need to say that’s too hot for easy consumption? How do we connect when we need to take action? What must be done this time? Who will the successor be? What ideals remain when the structures around them are undermined?
