Venus weaves us back together. She gathers the edges of fractures in our personal worlds and brings more strategic connection – more divinity, more art, more moving expressions of loss or pointed rage, and more justice overall. Not the law & order kind, no. She prefers the deep fairness of real consequence and true repair.
Oh, and she’s also the avatar of the sweetest treats and deserts and pleasures. We can do Venus to excess, just like any other planet.
Venus is now in her evening phase, visible to us in the western evening sky. She brings us eight months of breaking cultural notions of what is possible in the arts, as she does every other year. Venus is deeply political by default. In this phase of her synodic cycle she willingly looses the powers of privilege and goes ever closer to the places of suffering. We see this imaged in the story of the Descent of Inanna, translated from a Sumerian tablet that describes the story of the evening star phase.
Don’t mistake her willingness to put herself in danger as naivety. She is on a proscribed journey. She already knows she’ll need to trust people to survive the retrograde at the end of it. She has been aware of this need already. She relies on the connections and trust that she’s built over the last seven years. She is appealing to her supporters to remember her inherent worth no matter what she does or encounters as she walks out into the world. She is now as prepared as she can be.
When she rises as a morning star next April, she’ll be trying to bring consequences to those who turned away from her suffering. Oof! There is always a flip in circumstance. Now though, she endures, learning to drop some pretentions, especially the power that is only symbolic along the way.
