Here’s what I can say about Venus:
Venus in Scorpio brings us into relationship with the territory of strategic defense. We are trying to relate through an experience where we are not being put at ease and/or conciliatory behavior would be unkind or inauthentic. We are walking through the breaches between bubbles of preexisting relationships. There is a determination to perform this overlap.
Venus shows up eschewing all sorts of protective dances these days. Honestly, she’s had enough. She currently expresses through social signals that fail to console, often delivered from a place of stress or a fall from grace.
There is something falsely liberatory here, like a youth who believes they are sticking it to the man by beating up their own younger sibling. Now they have harm to transmute. The land of Scorpio isn’t trying to build relationships as a default. It’s dealing with figures locked in perpetual defense. Social shame doesn’t speak the language fluently enough for Venus here. There are absolutely crossed signals.
Now Venus, who truly does want honest connection, will explore what to do when putting someone at ease is not the primary goal of a given social interaction. We salute her and hope to learn how the rejection of pleasantries can be a thing that draws people together rather than apart. When consequences and boundaries don’t seem to follow the rules that others deem appropriate, we must marvel at the wisdom of Venus as she answers the call to respond to existing tensions with as little unnecessary defensiveness as possible. It’s simply inefficient to be too concerned with signals of politeness when something more important is at stake.
Each of us has our own relationship to conflict. Do we truly believe that festering wounds are always too frightening to be worth attempting to drain? Are we aware that it is universally unkind to be avoidant? That directness is an important form of relational care? That if we shirk our responsibility to name what’s wrong, that we also give up our right to bitch about it with any integrity?
Or do we only feel comfortable with conflict? Do we go around digging ferociously at every clogged pore, creating wounds that don’t need to be there? Perhaps the rest of the people could benefit from your bravery now if this is you. But don’t assume they understand your motives. It is only kind to over-explain if someone hasn’t yet reached the point of needing to experience consequence. If the line was three months ago, then the time for debate has passed.
Venus will stay here throughout the months of October and November reminding us: don’t bypass your responsibility to say the hard thing or to point out untrustworthy behaviors. Agreements can be made between people with different values but they cannot rely on any conventions or assumptions about proper social behaviors. You cannot depend on the social cues of people who are cut from a different social fabric than you. Nor can you blame them for your own failure to be straightforward. If your usual signals aren’t connecting, the odds are that they’re too subtle.
